Summer With The Arts: Healing, Freedom, Family

Exhibit partner, Uniting US provides engaging events to share ideas and experiences from one individual to another as a means to celebrate healing, wellness, and uniting communities. UnitingUS founding members, a collective group of volunteer veterans and family members, are dedicated to: inspiring participation in therapeutic art, empowering and supporting engaging activities, uniting service members and communities in which they live, and are committed to helping others experience the healing and uniting power of the arts.

Summer With the Arts exhibit curator, Annette Polan, is an internationally renowned artist and scholar, and Professor Emeritus from the Corcoran College of Art and Design at George Washington University. She is a participant in the “Art in Embassy Program” sponsored by the Department of State and is a much-sought-after artist for official portraiture.

Bringing her talents to the Military Women's Memorial for a second time, Pollan previously organized Faces of the Fallen, an exhibit of 1327 portraits depicting service men and women who died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which exhibited at the Military Women's Memorial, from March 2005 – June 2007. Although conceived and organized by Annette Polan, over 250 artists from around the country created the 6”x8” portraits in every conceivable medium.
