Marilyn Melendez Dykman became the first Hispanic woman U.S. Coast Guard pilot.

1995

Air Force Brigadier General Marcelite Harris promoted to major (two-star) general, the first African American woman to attain this rank.

1996

Major Theresa Claiborne became the first African American woman U.S. Air Force pilot.

1998

Lillian Fishburne became the first African American woman promoted to one-star (flag) rank in the U.S. Navy.

Maria V. Martinez became the first Hispanic woman promoted to command sergeant major in the U.S. Army.

Major Angela Salinas became the first Hispanic woman lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps.
