We Also Served

While seldom recognized, women have performed supporting roles for the military throughout history. Women were not officially part of the military until the early 20th century, and even then, they were not initially given formal rank. Nonetheless, these women risked their lives, traveled to far away and dangerous locations, and performed critical and important work. Despite lack of recognition for their service, women’s diligent efforts were pivotal to the military’s ability to operate and accomplish its mission.
