Rose M. Heavren's Souvenir of Havana booklet that features various images from Havana, Cuba.

After the peace treaty was signed in Paris the 10th of December 1898, some US troops and nurses remained on duty in Cuba. Other troops and nurses were ordered to the Philippines for duty in the Philippine Insurrection or to serve in China during the Boxer Rebellion.

[Arriving in Santiago Harbor in January 1899, Nurse Eastman found] American troops were there and Old Glory waved from the highest point on the [Moro] Castle and Uncle Sam's boys waved their hats as we passed by.
