Description

A young Jasmin Moghbeli wanted to be an astronaut when she grew up. Today, she is the first astronaut of Iranian descent, and a potential candidate to be the first woman on the moon. Moghbeli received her Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering with Information Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2005, Moghbeli joined the U.S. Marine Corps becoming an AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter pilot. Since, she has logged over 2,000 flight hours in 25 different aircraft. She deployed three times and completed 150 combat missions. Moghbeli says, “The Marine Corps played a very important part in shaping me and giving me a lot of the skills I needed.” In January 2020, she graduated alongside 13 classmates from the NASA Astronaut Candidate Training Program, which included learning fluent Russian, training for space walks, and robotics.
